Eric Mitchell Hockey Tournament

On March 8 & 9, 2024, the CPA Manitoba Foundation was proud to host the 33rd Annual Eric Mitchell Hockey Tournament. The event featured two days of fun, team building and networking in honour of the legacy of Eric Mitchell. Thank you to all the teams who participated in this year’s tournament.

All funds raised help remove barriers for current and future CPAs. As well as provide additional opportunities to improve access for those who are underrepresented, ensuring the profession is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

Congratulations to the A-side champions, Migizi Shepherd Chartered Professional Accountant Inc., and B-side champions, PwC.

Tournament Background
Working as a senior auditor with tournament founders Charles Henaire, FCPA, FCA and Laurie Nesbitt, CPA, CA, Eric Mitchell was part of a tight-knit team at Touche Ross (now Deloitte LLP). Over several years, the trio celebrated personal and professional milestones together, including completing the 1989 Uniform Final Evaluation (UFE).

After writing the UFE, Eric set out on a much-deserved vacation. While there, tragedy struck during a scuba diving accident, ultimately taking Eric's life.

While Eric loved hockey, the tournament goes beyond the sport, embracing the powerful friendships built and the ties that bind the tournament to him.

All funds raised from this event support the CPA Manitoba Foundation and help to invest in the future of those who are committed to making Manitoba a better place to live and work.
